S is for Sirius Black

Today is devoted to my favorite character from the Harry Potter universe Sirius Black. I have been in awe of Sirius since i read The Prisoner of Azkaban. I did not read Harry Potter until after the 4th book was out so I was playing catch up a little. When I got to the Prisoner of Azkaban is when I become a total Harry Potter fangirl. In fact my hard copy of the Prisoner of Azkaban is so worn out the binding is coming apart.
So the real question is why do I love Sirius so much. First off I like the fact that he is an animagus. This was just really cool that he found a way to become an animagus so that he could help his friend. Second he is all that Harry has left for family and he plays that role very well while he can. Third you can tell he really does love harry and maybe it is because he feels guilty that he could not have done more to save his friend. I believe he does his share when he gets out of prison to help protect harry how James would have wanted him to. He is the one character that is not afraid to be bad but is inherently good and I love that.
As far as the films go I think Gary Oldman was the perfect choice to play this character and I really enjoyed his on screen performance. I wish Sirius had made it to the end of the series but all characters have their place and a role they must serve and he served his bravely.
Here is an interview with David Thewlis (remus lupin) and gary oldman (sirius black)

How do you feel about sirius black?

Interesting interview– I always find it kinda strange to see the actors who play such iconic characters out of part. Kinda strange, but cool. I also *love* Sirius– the end of the fifth book sent me into a long depression!

Anyway, I love your blog (new follower)! Posting the ABCs of fangirlish-ness is an awesome idea. :)

Prisoner of Azkaban is when I became a total Harry Potter nut too.

Sirius Black is fantastic and I have long planned to name my next dog after him. This is, in case you’re not sure, a Big Deal. =)

    Awesome post.

Sirius Black is my favorite character in the Harry Potter books and movies and I cry every time he dies, I really wish he lived though all of the books and movies

I think he is very innocent in those books, and I want to scream every times when I see his name. Unfortunately, not everyone loves Sirius as much as we did, not many people is like us. Poor Sirius!

I know my nasty comment might make you angry, but I really want to say, Gary Oldman is not a very perfect choice for playing Sirius…
